If the back wheel is turning very slowly and you can stop it by putting your foot on the tyre (carful now), its fine.. A little clutch drag is normal. If it's spinning fast then your clutch is dragging too much... Also test by sitting on the bike, running, in gear with the clutch pulled in.. Can you roll the bike backwards just using your feet ????. As said it's almost defo just cause there is plenty grease and the seals are in prime condition - both of which will decrease with time. I too can't imagine any worthwhile wheel builder would send out their product without checking the preload - but - the only other real possibility is that the preload is to high which is dead easy to check and adjust. Essentially, the starter DOES spin, which in turn spins the bigger gears, but the reaction is the same. Empty spinning. It's not turning the engine over to crank it. So when you hold the starter button down, the gears just spin without the engine turning over.. kind of like holding the trigger of a drill down. 1985 General 5 Star. 5 years ago. Steady Idle = Back Wheel Spinning A Lot. What does that mean? My bike's been riding just fine, but it seems like my back wheel is rotating way too much during idle.
